A funeral director should be contacted
to talk you through administration and next steps , there is no requirement to wait for a death certificate
  • At Home, call your GP to let them know, a doctor or nurse will come out to verify the person's death.

  • At Hospital, the hospital will issue a cause of death certificate  which needs to be passed to the registrar to officially document a death and obtain a death certificate

  • In a Nursing Home, a GP will confirm the death and your preferred funeral director notified

Registration of a Person's Death

All deaths in the UK need to be registered at your local registrar's office usually by the next of kin, if the death was unexpected a death may be referred to the coroner's office for further investigation.
